Step 1 of applying for a co-op work permit
First of all, you have to log in to your RICC account. For that, you have to visit the official website of RICC.
Step 2
Here you can see the interface of the RICC portal. By clicking on the first option you can log in using the ID password that you used while applying for the visa If you don’t have an account, you can also create an account.
After login, you have to click on the first option which is “visitor visa, study and work permit“
Step 3
Now you have to select the options as per your requirements. I have explained these question below so that you can better understand.
Here is the explanation of the question
1. What would you like to do in Canada?
Even though you’re applying for a co-op work permit, this option should be selected as the co-op is part of your study program. A co-op work permit is only issued to students enrolled in programs that require work placements.
2. How long are you planning to stay in Canada?
Explanation: If your study program and co-op placement together are longer than 6 months (most are), select this option. This choice confirms that you need permission to stay in Canada for an extended period due to the duration of your studies and work component.
3. Select the code that matches the one on your passport.
Choose the country code on your passport.
Explanation: This option allows immigration officials to identify your nationality, as it is stated on your passport. For example, if you’re from India, select “IND (India)”. Make sure this matches the country code on your actual passport.
4. What is your current country/territory of residence?
Select the country where you currently live.
Explanation: Choose the country you are residing in right now, even if it’s different from your nationality. For instance, if you live in India, select “India.” This information helps determine if you need a visa to enter Canada and whether you’re eligible to apply from outside the country.
5. Do you have a family member who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and is 18 years or older?
Select “Yes” or “No” based on your situation.
Explanation: If you have a close family member in Canada (like a spouse, parent, or sibling) who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and is over 18, select “Yes.” Otherwise, select “No.” Having a family member in Canada may impact certain eligibility requirements or application procedures.
6. What is your date of birth?
Select your birth year, month, and day.
Explanation: Your date of birth helps immigration officials verify your age, which may be relevant for different permit requirements. Be sure to enter it accurately to avoid delays in your application.
Step 4
If you are not a U.S. green card holder, select “No” (as shown in the image). If you are, then you would select “Yes” and provide your USCIS number if prompted.
Step 5 of apply for co op work permit
In this step, you have to select your current immigration status in Canada. Like if you are studying in Canada then select student or if you on work visa then select worker.
Step 6
If you want to do a job on campus then you have to select yes if not then select No.
Here you can select the option as per your requirement.
Step 7
1. The first question is asking if you’ve received preliminary approval for permanent residence from IRCC. “Approved in principle” means IRCC has reviewed your application and determined that you meet the basic eligibility requirements, but the final decision is still pending.
If you have not received any notification from IRCC stating that you are approved in principle, select “No”.
2. The second question asks if you’ve formally applied for permanent residency in Canada.
If you have not submitted a permanent resident application, select “No”.
3. The third question asks if you have a formal job offer from a Canadian employer. A written job offer is usually a document that states the terms of employment, including the position, salary, and start date.
If you do not have a job offer from a Canadian employer, you can select “No”. If you do have a job offer, select “Yes”.
Step 8
In the 9th step, you have to select your marital status and your province of destination. Select the province where you have spent most of your time.
Step 9
In this step, you have to select 2nd option which is “Co-op (in Canada)“
This question asks if you are planning to move to Canada at the same time as a close family member (like a spouse, parent, or child) who already has legal status in Canada.
If you want to apply for the study permit at the same time as the co-op work permit, you can select “yes.” and if not then you can simply select “No”
The expiration date of your current legal status in Canada. This applies if you are already in Canada temporarily (e.g., with a study permit, work permit, or visitor visa).
If you have spent more than six months in any of these designated countries or territories in the last year, select “Yes.“
If you have not spent more than six months in any of these designated countries or territories, select “No.”1
Step 10
In this step, you have to select one that is related to your program.
Step 11
Now you have to upload your documents like your co-op letter, passport, digital photo etc.
Final Step
In the final step, you have to pay your fees and then your application is submitted to the portal.
Conclusion
All the things you need to keep in mind while applying for a co-op work permit. The requirements of every student may be different because as you see the questions, if my answer is yes then yours may also be no. There are a few things that may be different. You have to fill in your information as per your requirements.
one more thing If you make even a small mistake, it could cause problems for you. This means you may have to apply again, and make changes, and this will waste both your time and resources.
